OPTIMASI PEMANFAATAN LIMBAH CANGKANG TELUR AYAM SEBAGAI BAHAN PENGISI (FILLER) RAMAH LINGKUNGAN UNTUK PENINGKATAN SIFAT FISIK KOMPON KARET PADAT
Natural rubber in order to be processed into various types of products must go through a compound process with the addition of additives. One of the important additives in the manufacture of rubber compounds is using fillers so that the fina product become harder and stiffer and higher economic value. Research that has been conducted to produce of solid rubber compounds using eggshells as fillers. The filler material used must be in an optimal amount so that it can improve the value of the physical properties of the finished goods produced. Eggshells were dried, crushed and sieved followed by activation using sulfuric acid 2M. The activated eggshells were characterised using XRD and SEM, then used to produced solid rubber compounds. The resulting solid rubber compound was tested for physical properties to compare with solid rubber compound using carbon black filler. The activated eggshell has in increased surface area and pore size as evidenced by SEM characterisation. The surface area and pore size of these eggshells improve the physical properties of solid rubber compounds. The variation in the amount of filler material used is 15, 25, and 35 phr. The optimal amount of filler material is 15 phr for the physical properties of hardness, tensile resistance, tear resistance, and elongation at break. The amount of filler material 35 phr is optimal in improving physical properties, namely the specific gravity or density test and the 150 ̊ C rheometer test.
