UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN SENYAWA METABOLIT SEKUNDER DAUN MEMPELAS (TETRACERA INDICA (HOUTT. EX CHRISTM. & PANZ.) MERR)
Free radicals are the result of the respiration process. Free radicals are very dangerous for the body because they can cause various diseases such as premature aging, cancer, atherosclerosis, lung disorders, kidney diseases, cataracts, rheumatism and diabetes mellitus. Antioxidants are involved in protecting the human body from damage caused by free radicals. Mempelas plants contain antioxidants that can be used to protect the body from free radicals, therefore research was conducted on this plant to determine how much antioxidant content is contained in it. This research was conducted at Sriwijaya University from August to November 2024, research on the activity of antioxidant compounds was conducted in the Biotechnology and Genetics laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Several antioxidant activity tests were carried out using thin layer chromatography and UV-Vis spectrophotometers and determination of compound groups was carried out. The results of the study showed that the n-hexane fraction had very strong antioxidant activity, and the ethyl acetate fraction had strong antioxidant activity, while the methanol fraction had weak antioxidant activity. There are four groups of pure compounds found in mempelas leaves, including steroids with very strong antioxidant activity, terpenoids, flavonoids, and alkaloids with strong antioxidant activity.
