This research aims to increase the solubility of seaweed extract (sargassum sp) in sunscreen formulations using ionic gelation nanoparticles. determine the resulting characteristics including particle diameter, PDI, and zeta potential. This research begins with the seaweed process to make alginate, make ionic gelation nanoparticles and make sunscreen cream preparations. The ionic gelation method was chosen to make sunscreen with omponents consisting of seaweed extract, chitosan and CaCl2. The tests carried out were spreadability test, pH test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, hedonic test, solubility test and stability test with cycling test. The results of this research show that in the spreadability test F1 has a result of 4.8, in F2 it has a result of 6.0 and in F3 it has a result of 5.5. The pH test resulted in F1 6.0, F2 6.4 and F3 7.1. In the viscosity test, F1 produced 9840, F2 179,000, and F3 43250. In the homogeneity test, F1 was homogeneous, F2 was less homogeneous and in F3 it was homogeneous. In the hedonic test, F2 and F3 were preferred by panelists regarding color, smell, texture and application. In the solubility test all formulas dissolved in SIF. It can be concluded that in this study F1 had little dispersing power and a homogeneous formula, in F2 it had a wide dispersing power and was not homogeneous, and in formula 3 the dispersing power was moderate and homogeneous. In the cycling test there were no significant changes. The PDI and zeta results are important diameters in nanoparticle preparations because nanoparticles have a small particle size and nanoparticle preparations will also provide stability because the particles will have better dispersion.
