REPRESENTASI MAKNA AGAMA DALAM FILM SIKSA KUBUR (Analisis Pendekatan Semiotika John Fiske)
This study analyzes the representation of religious meaning in the horror movie Siksa Kubur using John Fiske's semiotics approach. The film presents a narrative about spiritual debates that depict the understanding of religion as a complex aspect often influenced by personal experiences, ideologies, and cultural values. John Fiske's semiotic approach is applied to explore three levels of analysis: reality, representation, and ideology. The reality level includes physical elements such as dialogue, expressions, and gestures; the representation level highlights the use of cinematographic elements such as lighting, color grading, and camera shots; while the ideology level reveals religious values represented or critiqued in the film. The results of the study indicate that the film represents Islam as the narrative foundation, visualizing debates on faith, sin, and the afterlife through cinematographic and audio techniques that create a tense atmosphere. The film provides ample interpretive space, allowing audiences to perceive religious values from various perspectives, ultimately enabling them to determine their understanding and actions. Visual elements such as dim lighting and warm color grading enhance the spiritual and emotional nuances, while character dialogues articulate diverse views on religion. This research offers insights into how horror films can serve as a medium for reflecting religious understanding and provide new perspectives in the study of religious films in Indonesia.
