RESPON PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN CHAYA (CNIDOSCOLUS ACONITIFOLIUS) TERHADAP LAMA KEKERINGAN DAN PEMBERIAN MULSA ORGANIK
Chaya (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) is known as one of the drought-tolerant perennial vegetable crops. However, chaya that experience drought will be different from normal plants. Drought disrupts many cellular functions in plants that regulate plant growth and productivity. One of the efforts that can be made to reduce the impact of drought is by applying mulch. This research aims to determine the response of growth and yield of chaya to the drought duration and application of organic mulch. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture Greenhouse, Sriwijaya University from June to September 2024. This research used the method of Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) consisting of two factors. The first factor was drying time with five treatments, namely: No drying (I1), 3 days drying (I2), 6 days drying (I3), 9 days drying (I4), and 12 days drying (I5). Then the second factor is organic mulch with two treatments, namely: Without mulch (M1) and with mulch (M2). From the two factors, there were 10 treatment combinations with 3 replications. Each replicate consisted of 2 plants, so there were 60 plants. This research used polybags measuring 35 cm × 40 cm. The results showed that chaya can withstand drought stress, but their growth and production yields are different compared to normal conditions with sufficient water. The longer drought experienced by chaya, the more the growth and productivity will decrease. The application of organic mulch is proven to be able to overcome the drought stress that occurs because it makes the growth and production of chaya better.
