DAMPAK PERTAMBANGAN BATUBARA TERHADAP EKONOMI DAN LINGKUNGAN PETANI KARET DI DESA ULAK LEBAR KECAMATAN LAHAT KABUPATEN LAHAT
Coal mining is the activity of extracting coal from the earth using drilling, blasting, and separation methods from the soil layers. One of the negative impacts resulting from coal mining activities is environmental damage to agriculture in Ulak Lebar village. The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze the difference in income of rubber farmers before and after the existence of coal mining in Ulak Lebar village, and (2) to describe the environmental impacts caused by coal mining on rubber farming in Ulak Lebar village. The method used in this research is a survey method. The sampling method used was simple random sampling with 30 respondents. This research was conducted in Ulak Lebar village, Lahat Subdistrict, Lahat Regency. The study was carried out from November to December 2023. The results of this study indicate that: (1) The paired t-test results for rubber farmer income before and after the coal mining activities showed a difference. Farmer income decreased by 13.79% after the coal mining activities. (2) The environmental impact resulting from coal mining activities on rubber farming directly affects latex production, causing a decrease in production, quick yellowing of rubber leaves, and a limitation in latex production time in the morning. Moreover, the surrounding environment of the plantation is also affected, with acidic water pH, acidic soil with a dusty clay texture, and the presence of air and dust pollution from mining activities
