SKARIFIKASI PEMATAHAN SAYAP DIKOMBINASI PENGAMPLASAN TERHADAP PERKECAMBAHAN MAHONI (Swietenia macrophylla King.)
Mahogany plants are classified as plants with slow growth speed because they have an orthodox seed structure. Mechanical scarification with wing cutting and sanding on mahogany seeds is done by reducing the seed part and thinning the seed coat so that water and air that have a role in the germination process are easier to enter so that the imbibition process is faster in the seeds. This study was conducted to determine the most effective scarification method between wing breaking or sanding mahogany seeds in accelerating the germination of mahogany seeds. This research was conducted in the Greenhouse of the Forest Plant Seed Center Region I, Palembang City, South Sumatra from July to August 2024. The research method used was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of six treatments and four replications, each replication contained 15 plant seeds with a total of 360 seeds. The results showed that mechanical scarification in the form of wing cutting and sanding gave a real effect on the parameters of seeds stem height on mahogany sprouts with F-Count 3.75 obtained at a coefficient of variation of 4,11% against F-Table 5% (2,77). The treatment of 75% one side cutting on mahogany seeds was the best treatment because it showed the highest germination percentage results in germination (86,75%), simultaneous growth (88,25%), growth speed (91,25%), seeds stem height (23,04 cm), length of radicle (6,25 cm), sprout fresh weight (18,38 g), sprout dry weight (4,25 g), crown dry weight (1,20 g), roots dry weight (0,50), and crown/roots ratio (2,37).
