HUBUNGAN EFEK SAMPING OBAT KEMOTERAPI TERHADAP KUALITAS HIDUP PADA PASIEN KANKER PAYUDARA DI RS ISLAM SITI KHADIJAH PALEMBANG
Breast cancer (Carcinoma mammae) is an uncontrolled abnormal growth of cells in the breast tissue, where chemotherapy is one of the treatment methods. Chemotherapy aims to kill cancer cells, but can also cause side effects that have the potential to reduce the patient's quality of life such as nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and others. This study aims to analyze the relationship between chemotherapy side effects and the quality of life of breast cancer patients. This study used a cross-sectional design with observational analytic method. The study sample consisted of 35 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital Palembang in the period December 2024 - January 2025 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through the EORTC QLQ-BR23 questionnaire which assessed the patient's quality of life, as well as through medical records to determine the type of chemotherapy given and the side effects experienced. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to see the relationship between chemotherapy side effects and patients' quality of life. The results showed that the most common side effects of chemotherapy experienced by patients were hair loss (100%), nausea (100%), and pain (62,9%). The results of patients' quality of life on the symptom scale obtained 48.6% had good quality of life and 51.4% had moderate quality of life, while on the symptom scale as many as 60% had good quality of life, 34.3% had moderate quality of life and 5.7% had poor quality of life. Statistical analysis showed there was no significant relationship between chemotherapy side effects and the quality of life of breast cancer patients (p>0.05).
