This study focus to evaluate the performance of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) with varying Pt-Ru/C catalyst loading in a Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cell (URFC) as a hydrogen-based renewable energy solution. The URFC operates in two modes: electrolysis mode, which produces hydrogen from water, and fuel cell mode, which generates electricity from hydrogen. The Pt-Ru/C catalyst loading variations used are 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 mg/cm². Electrode characterization was conducted using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV). The efficiency of the URFC was evaluated based on the Round Trip Efficiency (RTE) by comparing the energy produced in fuel cell mode with the energy consumed in electrolysis mode. The results showed that the electrode with a catalyst loading of 0.6 mg/cm² exhibited the highest Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) of 54 × 10⁴ m²/g and an electrical conductivity of 6.66 × 10⁻² S/cm. The fuel cell mode test produced the highest Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) of 0.8063 V, with maximum current density and power density values of 24.588 mA/cm² and 4.92 mW/cm², respectively. In electrolysis mode, an increase in current density enhanced the hydrogen production rate. The optimal RTE efficiency was achieved at a current density of 4 mA/cm², with a value of 44%.
