Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is a horticultural commodity that has high prospects and economic value. In Indonesia, lettuce is not widely cultivated like other types of vegetables. The use of shade in lettuce cultivation activities is an effort to create environmental conditions for plant growth because shade can be an alternative in testing the level of plant tolerance to low light intensity as an approach to urban areas dominated by buildings. This study aims to determine the level of growth tolerance and yield of three types of lettuce plant varieties to 80% shade intensity. The research was conducted in Jakabaring (104464BT, 3013 LS), Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, which was conducted from June to July 2024. The method used in this study was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with the treatment of three lettuce varieties consisting of Romaine (P1), Grand Rapids (P2), and Siomak (P3). The data obtained from the research results were analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method. Furthermore, to determine the best treatment, the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test was used with a test level of 5%. The results of the study showed that the best growth and results were found in treatment P2 (Grand Rapids). Grand Rapids lettuce has the best growth and yield as seen from the visualization and observation parameters that show the highest results such as leaf width, number of leaves, canopy area, canopy width, fresh weight and dry weight (leaves, stems, and roots), stem length and internodal distance. Grand Rapids lettuce is more adaptable to 80% shade conditions than Romaine lettuce and Siomak lettuce.
