FORMULASI SEDIAAN KRIM ANTI JERAWAT DARI EKSTRAK ETANOL AKAR BAJAKAH KUNING (Coscinium Fenestratum) DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI TERHADAP Propionibacterium acne
Acne is caused by the bacterium Propionibacterium acnes. The ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root (Coscinium fenestratum) contains active antibacterial compounds. In cream form, this extract can be applied directly to infected skin, providing optimal therapeutic effects. This study aims to develop an anti-acne cream formulation with varying concentrations of yellow bajakah root extract (2%, 4%, and 6%). The evaluation included organoleptic tests, pH measurement, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, irritation, stability, and antibacterial activity tests. The analysis results identified the 6% concentration as the optimal formula, characterized by a thick texture, light brown color, distinctive aroma, good homogeneity, pH 6.10 ± 0.25, viscosity 8,102 ± 0.210 cP, spreadability of 5.95 ± 0.30 cm, adhesion of 6.85 ± 0.65 seconds, non-irritating properties, and stable consistency. Data analysis using one-way ANOVA and Duncan tests indicated that the ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes (P-value < 0.05). The antibacterial activity test showed an inhibition zone of 13 ± 0.26 mm, with a Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 12.5%, while the comparative control was at 50%. Formula 3 demonstrated the best characteristics and the strongest antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. Keywords : Acne, Yellow bajakah root, Propionibacterium acne, Formulation, Antibacterial
