This study focuses on the social interpretation of farmers regarding the dredging of irrigation canals and its implications for social and economic life in Cempaka Village, Cempaka District, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency. The government's irrigation dredging activities have led to various social interpretations among farmers, influenced by their direct experiences and perceived changes. The purpose of this study is to analyze and understand the social interpretation of farmers regarding irrigation dredging and its implications for their social and economic life. The research employs a qualitative method with a case study research strategy. It applies the Social Construction of Reality theory by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. Data were collected from 6 main informants, I key informant, and 3 supporting informants through interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles & Huberman data analysis technique (Sugiyono, 2013). The findings indicate that: (1) there is an externalization process in which the people of Cempaka Village express their views on irrigation dredging in their environment, (2) there is an objectification process where the experiences of the Cempaka Village community regarding irrigation dredging influence the dynamics of their social and economic life, and (3) there is an internalization process where the hopes, values, and norms of the Cempaka Village community related to irrigation dredging shape their social and economic life. The social implications include changes in the interaction dynamics among farmers and the role of mutual cooperation in irrigation maintenance. Meanwhile, from an economic perspective, irrigation dredging affects farming patterns, farmers' welfare, and their ability to access water resources more sustainably.
