DESIGNING A SET OF CLIMATE CHANGE-BASED SPEAKING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL FOR THE 4TH GRADE STUDENTS AT SAINT PAUL’S JUNIOR SEMINARY PALEMBANG
Education can help increase awareness of climate change as a global concern. In keeping with Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato si, which addressed climate change, seminary as a Catholic institution is supposed to answer the Pope's appeal. This study aimed to determine the validity, practicality, and potential effect of the climate change-based speaking instructional material for the 4th grade of Saint Paul's Junior Seminary. This study used ADDIE development model. The data obtained through questionnaire and interviews. The participants of this research were 28 students of the 4th grade at Saint Paul’s Junior Seminary Palembang. The results of the study showed that the climate change-based speaking instructional material for the 4th grade students at Saint Paul’s Junior Seminary Palembang was valid, practical, and had potential effect. The validation of the product known from the experts’ review. The practicality of the product known from the results of one-to-one evaluation and small group. Field test conducted to known the potential effect of the product. Suggestions is given to the seminarians, English teacher at seminary, seminary, and other researchers. The seminarians, English teacher at seminary, and the seminary could use this climate change-based speaking instructional material to engage in a fun learning especially speaking and also to answer the call of Pope Francis through Laudato si. It is also hoped that other researchers could explore more skills or aspects from related topic.
