REPRESENTASI MASKULINITAS DALAM KONSTRUKSI CITRA: ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA PADA INSTAGRAM @HARRYSTYLES
This study aims to analyze the representation of masculinity within the construction of Harry Styles image as portrayed through his Instagram posts. Employing Roland Barthes semiotic theory, the analysis is conducted through the stages of denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings reveal that Harry Styles presents an inclusive masculinity as part of constructing his public image. At the denotative level, the analysis focuses on elements such as clothing, color, and accessories. At the connotative level, his portrayal reflects a form of masculinity that emphasizes expressive freedom and challenges traditional gender boundaries. At the mythological level, this representation is interpreted as a strategy to construct a progressive and socially relevant narrative of inclusive masculinity. The study also found that Harry Styles exhibits confidence in the inclusive masculinity ideas he conveys. These ideas not only serve as his contribution to supporting social change but are also strategically utilizes to build his image as an artist. Instagram is a platform to convey these ideas and strengthen his cultural relevance. Factors such as his constrasting real word appearances, queerbaiting, and brand collaborations play significant roles in constructing this image. This research contributes to the fields of gender and media studies, emphasizing the role of social media in shaping and popularizing new narratives of masculinity.
