SUPLEMENTASI ASTAXANTHIN PADA PAKAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PERTUMBUHAN DAN EFISIENSI PAKAN IKAN BETOK (Anabas testudineus)
Astaxanthin is a xantophyll group compound within the carotenoid family which functions as an antioxidant, and it can increase the digestion and absorption nutrients on fish. Supplementation astaxanthin on commercial feed is expected to stimulate the growth and increase efficiency of feed utilization by fish. This research aimed to determine the best dose of astaxanthin supplementation on commercial feed for growth and feed efficiency of climbing perch. The research was conducted at the Basics Fisheries Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. Feed proximate analysis was carried out at the Chemistry, Biochemistry and Processing of Fisheries Products Laboratory, Fisheries Product Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. This research used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and three replications. The treatment given was without supplementation astaxanthin on feed (P0), supplementation astaxanthin 100 mg kg-1 of feed (P1), supplementation astaxanthin 200 mg kg-1 of feed (P2), and supplementation astaxanthin 300 mg kg-1 of feed (P3). The results of this research showed that astaxanthin supplementation of 200 mg kg-1 of feed was the best dose resulted in absolute growth of weight of climbing perch was 1.27 g, absolute growth of length 1.20 cm, protein efficiency ratio 0.86, and feed efficiency 26.17%. Water quality parameters at P2 included temperature 28.2-28.9°C, pH 6.50-6.82, dissolved oxygen 4.00-4.90 mg L-1 and ammonia 0.005-0.073 mg L-1.
