HUBUNGAN INDEKS MASSA TUBUH DENGAN KADAR GULA DARAH PUASA PADA PRA-LANSIA BERISIKO DIABETES MELITUS DI WILAYAH KELURAHAN TIMBANGAN INDRALAYA
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease caused by the failure of the pancreas to produce the hormone insulin, which can cause blood sugar levels to increase. Blood sugar levels increase with increasing body mass index (BMI). This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and fasting blood sugar levels in pre-elderly people at risk of diabetes mellitus in Timbangan Indralaya Village Area. The design used in this study was correlational analytic with a cross-sectional research design. The sample size was 59 respondents with data collection using a questionnaire which was then measured for weight, height and fasting blood sugar checks. Testing was carried out using Spearman Rank analysis to determine the relationship between BMI and fasting blood sugar levels in pre-elderly at risk of diabetes mellitus in the Timbangan Indralaya Village area with a degree of significance or α=0.05. The results showed that more than half had normal BMI (64.4%), and half pf the respondents had prediabetic fasting blood sugar levels (50.8%). The results of the study obtained a p value of 0.071 > 0.05 which means that there was no relationship between BMI and fasting blood sugar levels in pre-elderly people at risk of diabetes mellitus in the Timbangan Indralaya Village area. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for the development of more effective prevention programs, especially in the Timbangan Indralaya Village, with a focus on health education, healthy lifestyles and routine health checks for pre-elderly people.
