ANALISIS KANDUNGAN BIOAKTIF PADA EKSTRAK RUMPUT LAUT COKELAT Sargassum sp.SEBAGAI SUMBER ANTIOKSIDAN ALAMI DARI PANTAI TANJUNG TINGGI PULAU BELITUNG
Sargassum sp. has a wide and varied distribution. This type of seaweed is considered a dominant plant and is distributed throughout Indonesian waters, one of the dominant seaweed locations is Bangka Belitung. Brown seaweed has been identified to contain pigments (fucoxanthin, astaxanthin, carotenoids) and polyphenols (phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins), which function as natural antioxidants. This study aims to determine the effect of different solvent types on the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of brown seaweed Sargassum sp. This research was conducted experimentally in the laboratory using a Randomized Block Design and the data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and a further Honest Significant Difference test. The solvents used were 70% ethanol, 70% acetone, and distilled water (aquades) with three replications. The observed parameters included total polyphenol content, tannins, flavonoids, functional groups, and antioxidant activity. The results of the study showed that the use of different solvents resulted in total phenol content ranging from 1.85 mgGAE/g to 6.34 mgGAE/g. The distilled water solvent was suspected to be the best solvent based on the total phenol content. The total tannin content ranged from 2.40 mgTAE/g to 8.67 mgTAE/g, with distilled water also suspected to be the best solvent based on total tannin content. The total flavonoid content ranged from 11.62 mgQE/g to 21.72 mgQE/g, with 70% ethanol suspected to be the best solvent based on the total flavonoid content. The antioxidant activity ranged from 13.90% to 44.56%, with distilled water being suspected as the best solvent based on antioxidant activity. The identification of functional groups from the 70% ethanol, 70% acetone, and distilled water extracts revealed the presence of O-H, C=C, C=O, C-H, and C-O functional groups. Based on the results of total phenol, tannin content, and antioxidant activity, distilled water emerged as the best solvent.
