EVALUASI PERTUMBUHAN PRODUKSI DAN SEGREGASI AKSESI JAGUNG MANIS UNGU GENERASI F1 HASIL PERSILANGAN JAGUNG MANIS BONANZA DENGAN JAGUNG UNGU UNSRI
Corn (Zea mays L.) is the main food crop after rice, playing a strategic role in food diversification. This study aims to evaluate the growth, production, segregation, and selection of several purple sweet corn accessions (UJ3UBO and BO) and produce next generation seeds. It was conducted in Sarolangun District, Jambi, June-August 2024, with a randomized group design of three crossing blocks, plant spacing 80x30 cm. Data were analyzed using Anova at α 5% with the SAS program. The results showed that the F1 generation could grow well, producing baby corn, sweet corn, and F2 seeds. Seed color segregated into white and purple. Sweet corn plant height averaged 224.1 cm, baby corn 214.2 cm, sweet corn cob height 95.73 cm, baby corn 79.93 cm. The fastest flowering age in baby corn and sweet corn was 35 HST and 41 HST. Baby corn was harvested at 50 days of age with a fresh weight of 60.23 g/cob, sugar content of 4% brix (5% brix elders). Sweet corn was harvested at 60 days of age with a fresh weight of 201.5 g/cob, sugar content of 13% brix (parents 15% brix). Purple corn has a sugar content of 7.5%. 17 purple cobs with wrinkled seeds were obtained, which are suitable for further variety development research.
