PENGARUH FEEDING DAN GRIT SIZE TERHADAP KEKASARAN PERMUKAAN KAYU MERBAU DENGAN PROSES PENGAMPLASAN (SANDING)
The rapid development of wood products led to improvement of techniques and needs for machines that used to process the wood . Wood machining is the process of shaping or cutting wood by using a machine using including cutting tool , through single or combination of sawing , planing, shaping ,routing , turning , sanding, etc. Because of that, the researcher used a horizontal milling machine in wood machining process to determine the effect of feeding ( mm / min ) and grit size on surface roughness of merbau . This reseach focused on the process of sanding using method of CCD ( central composite design ) that used to varying the grit size ( 120 ; 180 ; 240 ) and feeding ( 17 ; 25.5 ; 34 mm / min ) , while the depth of cut is 1.5 mm on surface roughness ( Ra ) of 13 specimens The measurement of Wood surface roughness was using a surface tester Accretech Handysurf E - 35 A / E by taking 3 different points on the specimen . Ra data obtained is the result of an average of 3 points measured . The results of the maximum and minimum roughness of Ra are 5.23 μm and 3.3 μm minimum . The conclusion that got from this research are Ra would increase when feeding increased and decrease when grit size increase. Then the greater value of Ra at the end of the sanding.
