Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is an infectious disease caused by a virus that is affected by polluted air and social environment. In Palembang City, ARI is a disease with a high incidence rate compared to other diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between air quality and population density with the number of ARI events in Palembang City in 2018-2022. This research is a quantitative analytical study that uses an ecological research design. The population and sample of this research are all sub-districts in Palembang City, namely there are 18 sub-districts from 2018 to 2022. This research uses secondary data collected from the Health Department, Central Bureau of Statistics, and Environmental Department of Palembang City. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical tests, correlation tests, and multiple linear regression tests. The results showed that the variables significantly associated with the incidence of ARI were PM10 concentration (p = 0.007), NO2 concentration (p = 0.003), and O3 concentration (p = 0.003), with a multivariate analysis determination value (R2) of 0.116, which indicates that the regression model can explain 11.6% of the incidence of ARI from air quality variables. Transport and industrial activities in Palembang are factors that cause air quality to be disturbed, therefore to conduct emission tests on vehicles and also industries in Palembang City. The suggestion to the Health Department is to optimise monitoring and recapitulation of monthly data on disease cases, the suggestion to Environmental Department is to optimise emission tests on vehicles and industrial waste, for subsequent research can expand the reach of the variables.
