EFEK EKSTRAK ETANOL TANAMAN SIRIH CINA (Peperomia pellucida) TERHADAP PERBAIKAN GINJAL TIKUS WISTAR YANG DIINDUKSI GENTAMISIN DAN PIROKSIKAM
The plant Peperomia pellucida (commonly known as Chinese betel) contains flavonoid and phenolic metabolites that have the potential to improve kidney function impaired by nephrotoxicity through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. This study aims to investigate the effects of ethanol extract of Peperomia pellucida (EEPP) on improving kidney function in rats induced with nephrotoxicity using gentamicin and piroxicam. The improvement of kidney function was observed through biochemical parameters, including urine volume and pH, serum creatinine and urea levels, creatinine clearance, urine protein, and kidney histopathology. The rats were divided into five groups: the normal group (NaCMC 0.5%), the negative control group (gentamicin 100 mg/kgBB and piroxicam 3.6 mg/kgBB), the positive control group (ketosteril 55 mg/kgBB), and test groups with doses of 200 and 400 mg/kgBB. The nephrotoxic agents were administered to all treatment groups for 7 days, followed by administration of ketosteril suspension and the extract for 21 days. Measurements of urine volume and pH were conducted after induction and treatment, while other biochemical parameters were measured after treatment. The rats were terminated at the end of the study for kidney histopathological examination. The results showed that administration of EEPP at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kgBB significantly improved kidney function (p
