The development of internet technology is increasingly rapid. Thanks to the internet, information is very easy to access. The most widely used internet service is social media. Adolescents use social media because they want to always be connected to the latest information. Adolescents who cannot control themselves in getting information from social media will have a negative behavioral influence on fear of missing out (FoMO). This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and the incident of FoMO in adolescent who use social media. This study is a quantitative study with a research design, namely a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Mesuji Makmur with a sample of 81 respondents using stratified random sampling technique. Data collection using the Brief Self-Control Scale questionnaire and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOs) instrument that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman rank test (alpha = 0.05). The results of the study obtained a p-value = 0.013 with a Correlation value of -0.276 which indicates a relationship between self-control and the occurrence of fear of missing out (FoMO) in adolescent social media users with a relationship between the two variables low and negative value which means the lower the level of self-control, the higher the level of FoMO and vice versa. Self-control is one of the factors in the emergence of fear of missing out (FoMO) behavior. Individuals who have high self-control tend to be able to restrain themselves from deviant behavior. While individuals who are unable to guide and direct their behavior will be more vulnerable to engaging in detrimental actions.
