STUDI PENENTUAN KOEFISIEN ATENUASI SUMBER 177LU MENGGUNAKAN SOFTWARE PHITS UNTUK APLIKASI BIDANG KEDOKTERAN NUKLIR
The radionuclide 177Lu plays an important role in nuclear medicine, particularly as a specialist in radiotherapy, due to its relatively long half-life and effective radiation emission for soft tissues. One approach to protecting humans and the environment from radiation is by understanding the attenuation study of radioactive sources, which refers to the reduction of radiation intensity as it passes through a medium, such as phantom materials. This study aims to determine the attenuation coefficient of the 177Lu source using a PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) slab phantom with the PHITS software based on Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that an increase in the activity of the 177Lu radiation source significantly affects the attenuation value, with attenuation coefficients (μ) ranging from 0.0327 cm⁻¹ to 0.0332 cm⁻¹. Additionally, the interaction of 177Lu radiation with PMMA material at medium to high energies is dominated by the photoelectric effect and Compton scattering. The thicker the material used, the smaller the radiation intensity remaining after the attenuation process, because more photons are absorbed or scattered, so less photon energy reaches the target area, making the resulting dose distribution smaller.
