PERAN INDONESIAN WOMEN PEACEKEEPER PADA MISI PEMELIHARAAN PERDAMAIAN PBB (STUDI KASUS : KONTINGEN GARUDA DALAM UNITED NATIONS INTERIM FORCE IN LEBANON) UNIFIL
This study analyzes the role of Indonesian Women Peacekeepers, particularly female personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Wan TNI), in supporting the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions through a case study of the Garuda Contingent in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The research focuses on the contributions of Wan TNI in efforts to protect against sexual violence, provide assistance to victims of sexual violence, and prevent similar incidents in line with the mandate of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security. Additionally, the study explores sexual violence incidents within the UNIFIL mission and examines how Wan TNI plays a practical role in addressing these challenges. The research employs a qualitative approach, analyzing data from interviews, official reports, and documents related to the UNIFIL mission. The findings reveal that Wan TNI holds a strategic role in fostering better relationships with local communities, particularly women and children, through effective communication and direct support for victims. Their participation also helps mitigate the potential escalation of sexual violence incidents through strict monitoring and preventive socialization. Beyond practical impacts, the presence of Wan TNI in the UNIFIL mission serves as an inspiration for women in Indonesia and other countries to participate in Peacekeeping Operations (PKOs). This study underscores that gender integration in UN peacekeeping missions not only enhances operational effectiveness but also strengthens collective efforts to create sustainable peace.
