REPRESENTASI TOXIC MASCULINITY DALAM FILM MONSTER (2023)
The research entitled “Representation of Toxic Masculinity in the Movie Monster (2023)” aims to analyze how the representation of toxic masculinity is shown in the film. The research method used is a qualitative research method through a semiotic approach. Roland Barthes semiotics in this research is used to analyze and reveal the meaning of denotation and myth. Data collection is obtained by observing and watching the movie Monster (2023), which then documents several scenes that lead to the object of research. The results of the study showed that several scenes showed toxic masculinity and the representation of toxic masculinity in boys in Japan occurred from various acts of gender injustice such as masculinity hegemony, stereotypes, social construction and violence. This is formed because Japanese society in their daily lives still mixes their beliefs or noble culture in the form of patriarchal teachings, and then formed standards or norms that are required to be fought by all men in Japan.
