Hoax news is news that looks real news but only contains lies, slander, and there is no visible pattern created to spread slander and hate speech about a particular person or institution. Hoax news can cause division in society and also have an impact on the government. The Palembang City Communications and Informatics Departement has implemented a series of strategies to reduce the spread of hoax news on social media. The aim of this research is to find out, identify and analyzed the implementation of the Strategy of the Palembang City Communication and Information Service in an effort to reduce the spread of hoax news on social media. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive research method with data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. To analyze the implementation of strategies to reduce hoax news on social media (study at the Palembang City Communication and Information Service), the strategy implementation theory from (Whaleen and Hunger, 2003) is used which is divided into 3 dimensions, namely Program, Budget and Procedure. The results of this research show that the implementation of the strategy to reduce hoax news on social media carried out by the Palembang City Communcation and Information Departement in the procedural dimensions has been running optimally, however in the program and budget dimensions it has not been running optimally. The lack of budget means that outreach activities which are part of the program to reduce hoax news cannot be carried out offline so they are replaced with online outreach.
