Poverty is a condition that a person or group of people are unable to fulfill their basic needs. The poverty rate of South Sumatra Province in 2018 to 2023 is still above the national poverty rate. The purpose of this study is to obtain the best model in estimating the poverty rate in districts and municipalities in South Sumatra using panel data regression in 2018 to 2023. There are 5 independent variables used, namely the Gross Domestic Regional Product (GRDP) rate, Human Development Index (HDI), Open Unemployment Rate (OUR), life expectancy, and population growth rate. The data used was secondary data obtained from BPS South Sumatra Province. Estimation of panel data regression models was done using three models, namely the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM). Selection of the best model was done by three tests, namely the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test. The best model chosen is the individual effect FEM with the regression model Y ̂_it=γ ̂_i+24.035-0.870X_2it+0.712X_4it+0.204X_5it. The FEM estimation results show that the HDI (X_2), life expectancy (X_4), and population growth rate (X_5 ) variables have a significant effect and are able to explain the poverty rate in South Sumatra Province by 97.8%. The MAPE result was 2.36%, indicating that the model was categorized as having a high level of accuracy.
