KOMUNIKASI TERAPEUTIK PATIENT SUPPORT DALAM PENDAMPINGAN PASIEN TUBERKULOSIS RESISTEN OBAT DI RSUD PALEMBANG BARI
ABSTRACT Palembang City has become the highest contributor to TB cases in South Sumatra Province. To support the successful treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB), which requires treatment periods between 9-24 months, the Indonesian government through the Sriwijaya Healthy Community of Palembang provides mentoring services, where patient support implements therapeutic communication. This research aims to understand the therapeutic communication conducted by patient support in assisting DR-TB patients at Palembang Bari Regional Hospital. This study uses the therapeutic communication theory proposed by Stuart and Sundeen (2013). The research employs qualitative methods through data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation study. The results show that therapeutic communication implemented by patient support encompasses four phases: pre-interaction (mental preparation and patient information gathering), orientation (building trust and interpersonal relationships), working (providing motivation and education), and termination (evaluation and follow-up). The orientation and working phases become the most dominant stages in the mentoring process. Patient support not only provides assistance at the hospital but also conducts home visits to monitor patient conditions. Unlike clinical therapeutic medical communication, community mentoring emphasizes personal aspects and emotional support.
