THE VOLUNTEERING MOTIVATION OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN UNSRI MENGAJAR AT SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY
The volunteer teaching program was held to deliver social education to the remote areas. This study is investigating the volunteer motivation of Pengajar Muda to Participate in Unsri Mengajar at Sriwijaya University. The aims of this study are to find out the volunteering motivations, to find out the impact of the programs to the volunteers’ personal development, and also to explore their experiences in this program. The participant of this study is the volunteers from Unsri Mengajar Batch 11 that consisted of 79 participants. To collecting the data, this study is using quantitative data by providing 2 questionnaires and interview. The study found that the main motivation of Pengajar Muda to participate in this program is self-determination (M=38.08, SD=3.96), as well as volunteering activities (M=25.72, SD=2.66). This program give impact to the volunteers through human capital (M=37.59, SD=4.29) and followed by physical and economic capital (M=36.63, SD=4.87). The volunteers also gained valuable experiences, improving teaching abilities and problem-solving skills.
