PENGUJIAN FATIK TORSI PADA ALUMINIUM PADUAN 6061 YANG DIBERI PERLAKUAN PANAS T6
Abstract Aluminum is a shiny silvery-white metal with high electrical conductivity. One type of aluminum commonly used in aircraft is AA6061. This research investigates the effect of T6 heat treatment on the fatigue resistance of 6061 aluminum alloy material. The heat treatment process involves solution heat treatment at 530°C for 2 hours, followed by rapid cooling using water, and artificial aging at 175°C for 5 hours. Testing was conducted using a Repeated Torsion and Bending Fatigue Testing Machine according to the JIS Z 2273 standard, with twisting angles of 4° and 5°. The results show that the material without heat treatment (NHT) has higher fatigue resistance compared to the material with heat treatment (HT). At a twisting angle of 4°, the fatigue resistance cycles of NHT reached 63,000 cycles, whereas HT only reached 16,800 cycles. At a twisting angle of 5°, the NHT cycles were 7,200, while HT reached only 3,600 cycles. Furthermore, tensile tests show that the maximum shear stress of the HT material reaches 120.416 MPa, which is higher than the NHT material at 66.909 MPa. The decrease in fatigue resistance in the HT material is caused by changes in the microstructure due to the heat treatment process. This study concludes that while heat treatment increases tensile strength, the fatigue resistance of the material significantly decreases. Therefore, the selection of heat treatment should be adjusted to the application requirements, especially for cyclic loading.
