This study examines public awareness of environmental sanitation of slums in Ogan Baru Village, Kertapati District, Palembang City. The purpose of this study is to analyze and examine public awareness regarding the urgency of environmental sanitation for slum communities in Ogan Baru Village, Kertapati, Palembang, South Sumatra. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative research method that is descriptive with a case study research strategy. The determination of informants in this study was carried out by purposive sampling which then obtained 4 key informants, 11 main informants, and 1 supporting informant. Data in this study was collected by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results showed that public awareness of environmental sanitation became a pattern or habit by the slum community in Ogan Baru Village. Residential areas River bank slums built following the flow pattern of the Musi river should be in a riverbank area of at least 5 meters with embankments not allowed to build settlements, this is based on the provisions of Ministerial Regulation Number 28 of 2015. This Ogan Baru slum does not have habitable conditions such as no building regularity, poor environmental road conditions, no wastewater management, and others. This problem should be one of the priorities and evaluations and then generate a gap from the existing condition with the proper direction.
