This study aims to examine the role of the Datuak in building social solidarity in Nagari Koto Panjang, Payakumbuh City, West Sumatera. In the Minangkabau community, which is rich in traditional values, the Datuak functions as a leader in adat, spirituality, and as a mediator in maintaining harmony and solidarity among residents. Using the role theory framework by Soerjono Soekanto, this research focuses on how the Datuak plays a role in shaping social solidarity based on local adat and cultural values. The research method employed is qualitative, with observation and in-depth interviews with key informants, including the Datuak and community members. The results show that the Datuak plays a central role in guiding the community not only in adat and religious aspects but also in (1) the economic field, (2) education, and (3) social issues. However, the role of the Datuak faces various internal and external challenges, which require collective efforts to overcome and raise public awareness of the importance of the Datuak's role. Therefore, it is hoped that the Datuak will contribute to creating a more harmonious, solid, and adaptive society in the face of changing times.
