Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) is a crucial component in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and serves as the electrochemical core of the system. One of the factors that significantly influences the performance of the MEA is the hydrogen flow rate as the fuel source. This study evaluates the performance and durability of the MEA with Pt/C catalyst in a PEMFC under varying hydrogen flow rates. The MEA used in this study measures 6.5 cm x 30 cm with a catalyst loading of 2 mg/cm². The hydrogen flow rates investigated are 100, 200, 300, and 400 mL/min. MEA performance was analyzed through polarization curves (DI-V curves) and DI-DP curves (power density vs. current density). The optimal performance was achieved at a hydrogen flow rate of 200 mL/min, yielding a power density of 3.563 mW/cm² and a current density of 10.256 mA/cm². Meanwhile, MEA durability was assessed at the optimal hydrogen flow rate of 200 mL/min under a 2 A load for 12 hours. Voltage degradation was not significant during the first 60 minutes, but a sharp voltage drop of 24.35% was observed after 600 minutes. MEA characterization was performed using cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) methods. The calculated results revealed an electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) 1.477 x 10-5, an electrical conductivity of 3.218 x 10-4 S/cm and an electric charge of 4.2 x 10-6 C.
