PERAN WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE DALAM MELINDUNGI HIU DARI PERDAGANGAN ILEGAL DI INDONESIA
Indonosia has tropical wators that are known to be rich in fish resources with a varietyof other biological rosources. The richmons of fish resourccs includes as many as 8,500species of fish, 555 spocios of senwoed and 950 spocies of coral reef biota. Other biologicalresourves include coral reofs with a mapped aren of 25,000 km2. This wealth of naturalresources must be presorved by maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem. One of theguardians of the balance of natural marine ecosystems is sharks. Sharks are an importantfactor in belancing the marine ecological chain. As a natural predator, it controls thepopulation of stingrays, dugongs, groupers and other small fish, thus indirectly helping topreserve coral reefs, control algae and prevent the development of diseases in the marineecosysiem. Ironically, in Indonesia sharks are hunted for their high economic valuecommodities for the culinary trade, health industry and other products. Excessive exploitationof sharks certainly has the potential to damage the marine ecosystem which will lead to thedestruction of Indonesia's marine wealth. This concern has encouraged WWE to take variouspreventive actions by involving the government, private sector, NGOs, civil society groups.and the wider public. The author is compelled to examine WWI's role in this movement as aneffort to improve the quality of the marine ecosystem The author is encouraged to examineWWI's role in this movement as an effort to expand support from various groups. This rescurch uses qualitative rescarch methods with an intrepetative approach. Thisrescarch was conducted at WWF Indonesia located at Gralia Simatupang, South Jakarta as thefocus of the rescarch. This rescarch is also supported by supporting data from the government.hotel/restaurant campaign partners The data sources of this research consist of primary datasources and secondary data sources The data collection method consists of interviews.documentation, and observation. The data analysis method used is the Miles and Hubermananalysis method, using data triangulation as a method of data validity The residts of thisstudy concluded that WWF Indonesia has an important role inshark conservation both as implementers, catalysts and pariners for the government and otherstakcholders. However, the impact/outcomes of the influence of WWF Indonesia's role needto be widely supported so that the covernment as the regulator and executor plays a moreactive role
