_ABSTRACT_ _Participatory planning can be defined as planning which in its implementation involves the community and in achieving its goals must be based on the interests of the community._ _Participatory planning is used as one of the steps in alleviating slum settlements in Karya Jaya Village, Palembang City. Community participation in efforts to eradicate slum settlements is a necessity, but the response of each community in the field will of course not always be the same. Therefore, this research aims to examine more deeply the implementation of participatory planning in efforts to eradicate slum settlements in Karya Jaya Village, Palembang City._ _This study uses a qualitative method. Data obtained through interviews, observation and documentation. The theory used is the theory of Alexander Abe (2002) which suggests that there are six dimensions as participatory planning stages, namely the investigation stage, problem formulation stage, supporting capacity identification stage, goal formulation stage, determining detailed steps and designing a budget. The results of the research show that participatory planning in Karya Jaya Subdistrict has been implemented but is not optimal. The obstacle that still occurs is that public awareness is not good enough to always participate in slum eradication activities. Apart from that, the lack of information conveyed to the public is also an obstacle in achieving the goals of participatory planning in overcoming slum settlement problems.
