Thailand has long been known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The increasing global Muslim population has encouraged Thailand as a non-OIC country to implement "Muslim Friendly Tourism" since 2015. In an effort to meet the expectations and preferences of Muslim tourists and make it a Muslim-friendly destination. The decline in the GMTI ranking experienced by Thailand from 2017 to 2023 shows significant changes in the preferences and demands of Muslim tourists, as well as several problems that Thailand may face in maintaining its attractiveness as a Muslim-friendly destination. With the efforts to develop MFT in Thailand, further analysis is needed regarding Thailand's challenges in developing MFT. The aim of this research is to see Thailand's challenges in developing Muslim Friendly Tourism (MFT). This research uses Simon Anholt's national branding concept and indicators from the Global Muslim Travel Index as analytical tools in analyzing Thailand's challenges in developing MFT. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research design, literature study method in data collection. The research results found that Thailand still faces a number of challenges in developing MFT, especially in aspects of tourism, culture and Thai government policy, namely the perception of Thailand as a major destination for sex tourism, high levels of firearm ownership. and The death rate due to firearms in Thailand, the lack of integration of Malay Muslim culture in tourism promotion and the conflict in Pattani, Southern Thailand are Thailand's main challenges in developing MFT. In overcoming this problem, Thailand has made several efforts, such as the Thailand Assembly, sex education counseling program, strengthening the law and mediating with the OIC countries in resolving the Pattani conflict.
