PERAN UN WOMEN DALAM MENANGANI KASUS FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM) TERHADAP PEREMPUAN DI SOMALIA
Human rights itself is divided into several rights, one of which is the right to women where this right is regulated to protect women from discrimination that occurs and also so that women get the same rights and treatment as human beings. The rights of women themselves are regulated in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) which was signed in 1979 which specifically regulates women's rights, and prohibits all forms of discrimination against women. One of the human rights violations that still occurs in Somalia is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which is a practice that is considered a violation of the human rights of girls and women which is internationally recogr sed. Therefore this research was made to be able to analyze the role of UN Women in handling cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) against women that occurred in Somalia. In this study, researchers used the theory of the role of international organizations by Clive Archer to analyze related to the role of UN Women in handling cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) against women that occurred in Somalia. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design. The results obtained from this study are that UN Women has several roles in handling FGM cases as an instrument, namely by collaborating with the Ifrah Foundation, as an arena UN Women has launched a program to address the issue of FGM in Somalia, and UN Women is the main actor in dealing with related issues, FGM that took place in Somalia.
