Background: Chronic tonsillitis is a common medical condition characterized by recurrent inflammation of the tonsils, which can be caused by viral or bacterial infections. Symptoms include recurring inflammation or sore throat, fever, swollen tonsils, and sometimes swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Adenoiditis, or inflammation of the adenoids, is a condition that is often associated with and can worsen the symptoms of chronic tonsillitis. There is significant variation in the characteristics of patients who experience this condition. This study aims to identify and understand the characteristics of patients who have undergone surgery for chronic tonsillitis with or without chronic adenoiditis at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: The research method used is descriptive observational, which focuses on observing, collecting, and interpreting data to provide an in-depth description of the characteristics of a population, behavior, or certain circumstances. 38 respondents met the inclusion criteria. The data obtained consisted of primary data on gender, age, clinical symptoms, frequency of attacks, tonsil size, degree of AHI, comorbid diseases, and patients who had undergone surgery. Each piece of data was analyzed using the 27th edition of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. Conclusion: Gender was found mostly in male subjects, as much as 55.3%, with an age range of 6–11 years, as much as 34.2%. Clinical symptoms found were sore throat (28.9%), difficulty swallowing (23.7%), sleep disturbances (76.3%), and fever (15.8%). The frequency of attacks most often occurs >7 times in 1 year (68.4%). Based on tonsil size, most were in the T3 category (55.3%), with an AHI degree in the severe category of 68.4% without comorbid diseases (78.9%). Chronic tonsillitis patients mostly underwent tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, as much as 63.2%. Keywords: adenoiditis, chronic, symptoms, tonsillitis
