Background: Patient with full edentulism experience difficulties in masticatory function,and thus require the use of complete dentures. The major issue with the use of complete dentures is the appearance of pain during mastication process caused by the sharp alveolar ridge bone and thin mucosa which can be overcome by using a permanent soft denture liner. A permanent soft denture liner is a soft denture lining material forming a cushioned layer between the denture base and the oral mucosa. Permanent soft denture liner have been divided into two groups based on their composition, namely silicone soft liner and acrylic soft liner. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of permanent soft denture liner on masticatory function in complete dentures. Methods: Literature was selected from PubMed, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Science Direct from the past 15 years. Results: All journals stated that the use of permanent soft denture liner improves masticatory function in patients with complete dentures Conclusion: The use of permanent soft denture liner in cases of complete dentures has a positive impact on patient's masticatory function.
