VOCATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE, AND ITS IMPACT ON LEARNING INTEREST AT SMK BINA JAYA PALEMBANG
This research aims to explore students' perceptions at SMK Bina Jaya Palembang regarding the importance of learning english as a foreign language and its impact on students' interest in learning. this research was conducted SMK Bina Jaya Palembang. There were 81 participants from tenth grade. To answer this research problem, researcher used qualitative research methods, and the instruments used were documentation, focus group discussions and interviews. Research findings show that all students perceive english learning as crucial, influencing their interest in learning. From the documentation result, it can be concluded that analysis of documentations show differences in students achievement at SMK Bina Jaya Palembang. From group discussions highlighted students' recognition of the various factors that contribute to the importance of english and the influence of the school environment on their perceptions. Interview revealed students' awareness of english as a global language and its significance for future careers. Positive perceptions consistently increase students' interest in learning english, while negative perceptions do not always reduce interest, depending on students recognition of the benefits of learning english. this study provides deeper understanding of how students' perceptions influence their interest in learning english, as well as providing valuable insights for educators in improving the effectiveness of english language teaching at SMK Bina Jaya Palembang and similiar institutions.
