This study aims to describe the form of politeness strategies and the verbal and non-verbal language characteristics of politeness strategies in the movie Serdadu Kumbang by Ari Sihasale. In addition, this study aims to find out the implications for Indonesian language learning. This research uses ethnographic method. The data collection techniques used in the research are listening technique and note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used in this research is ethnographic technique which consists of six stages, namely (1) determining the research project, (2) presenting questions, (3) collecting data, (4) recording data, (5) analyzing data, and (6) compiling reports. Based on the results of the study, it is known that there are thirteen language politeness strategies in the Serdadu Kumbang film which include (1) paying attention, (2) optimizing attention, (3) using language variations, (4) showing agreement, (5) avoiding disputes, (6) showing similarity, (7) using jokes, (8) understanding wishes, (9) offering/promising, (10) showing optimism, (11) involving interlocutors, (12) asking for consideration/stating reciprocal relationships, and (13) reasoning. Each of these strategies has verbal and non-verbal language characteristics. Verbal language characteristics are viewed from grammatical features and sociolinguistic features.
