This study aims to determine the understanding of Syair Cendawan Putih and the relationship between the understanding of Syair Cendawan Putih and gender in class XI high school students at SMAN 02 Palembang, SMAN 08 Palembang, and SMAN 10 Palembang. The subjects of this research were high school class XI students in SMAN 02 Palembang as many as 78 students, SMAN 08 Palembang as many as 78 students, SMAN 10 Palembang as many as 78 students. The method used in this research is quantitative method with correlational research type. The sampling technique used quota sampling technique. The data collection techniques used were tests and interviews. The data analysis technique uses the point biserial correlation test to determine the results of the research hypothesis. The results obtained based on hypothesis testing through the point biserial correlation test obtained a correlation coefficient of -0.172 with a negative correlation direction and the correlation coefficient is at a low level. Meanwhile, the significance value is 0.008 ˂ 0.01, meaning that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, in this study, it was found that there is a relationship between SCP understanding and gender in grade XI high school students. The understanding of SCP between male and female students is different. Male students tend to favor the exact sciences over literature. While women prefer literature because it involves their emotional feelings.
