PERBEDAAN DAYA ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK DAUN GAMBIR (UNCARIA GAMBIR ROXB.) DENGAN BERBAGAI PELARUT TERHADAP ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS
Background: Gambier leaves are herbal plants replacing chlorhexidine to overcome root canal treatment failures where much Enterococcus faecalis bacteria were found. Various solvents such as n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and aquades in gambier leaves extract are thought to have active compounds to increase antibacterial activity. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the difference antibacterial power of gambier leaves extract (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) with various solvents against Enterococcus faecalis. Methods: This study was an in vitro laboratory experimental study. The test group consisted extract of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and distilled water of gambier leaves with a concentration of 10% obtained by the graded maceration method. The antibacterial power test was tested using the disc diffusion method to determine the inhibition zone value. The results of the inhibition zone values were then analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA and Post Hoc Tukey tests. Results: The results of this study showed that 10% concentration of ethyl acetate extract of gambier leaves had the largest average inhibition zone value of 16.10 mm, and the lowest in 10% concentration of distilled water extract of gambier leaves of 11.00 mm. Statistically there was a significant difference in the mean inhibition zone value between each group. Conclusion: There were differences in the antibacterial power extract of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and distilled water of gambier leaves (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) with a concentration of 10% against Enterococcus faecalis.
