Background: The elderly is a group of humans who are in the final stages of the life phase and experience various health problems, including cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment contributes to elderly’s quality of life. This study aims to analyze the relationship between cognitive function and quality of life for elderly in Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution Palembang. Methods: This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study is all elderly in Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution Palembang in October 2023. The datas taken are respondent’s identity (sociodemographic, medical conditions, and lifestyle), cognitive function using the MoCa-Ina and quality of life using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Results: A total of 25 elderlies met the inclusion criteria. Sociodemographic characteristics found: elderly (52%), women (68%), and graduated from high school (32%). Most of them had hypertension (52%), had no history of stroke (72%), had no history of diabetes mellitus (80%), had no history of head trauma (88%), had no history of alcohol consumption (92%), had cognitive impairment (76%) and had poor quality of life (72%). The study found that 76% of the elderly were non-obese and 68% were non-smoker. Analysis using the Fisher Exact Test found a relationship between cognitive function and quality of life (p = 0.032). Conclusion: There is a relationship between cognitive function and quality of life for elderly in Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution Palembang. Cognitive stimulation programs and better institution services should be implementing to improve and maintain quality of life of the elderly.
