Background. Cases of esophageal foreign bodies are serious events that occur in children, because of their habit of putting foreign objects into their mouths when playing, such as metal coins and various other small objects. About 98% of children under the age of five who swallow foreign objects experience symptoms of pain, fussiness, chest pain, stomach ache, fever, difficulty eating and difficulty breathing are common signs in children. The average age is less than 10 years and the youngest is 4 months. This study generally aims to identify the characteristics of patients with foreign bodies in the esophagus in children at the ENT-KL Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, in the 2019-2022 period. Method. This type of research uses descriptive research methods with a cross-sectional research design and uses secondary data obtained from medical records of patients with esophageal foreign bodies in children at the ENT-KL Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the 2019-2022 period who meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results. The prevalence of cases of foreign bodies in the esophagus is dominated by men (61.4%) compared to women (38.6%). Based on age, the most common in this study were 0-5 years (56.1%), 12-18 years old (40.4%) and 5-11 years old (3.5%). In this study, the majority of sufferers had symptoms of dysphagia (93.0%), odynophagia (54.4%), nausea/vomiting (28.1%), regurgitation (3.5%) and dyspnea (1.8%) . The most common anatomical location in this study was located behind the cricoid cartilage in the cricopharyngeal muscle or at stricture I (94.7%) followed by stricture II (5.3%). Conclusion. Overall, the frequency distribution data provides a comprehensive picture of the characteristics of esophageal foreign body patients in children at Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, with emphasis on gender, age, symptoms, location and shape of foreign bodies, and complication rates. This information can provide a basis for more effective treatment and more appropriate prevention efforts. Keywords. Foreign Body, Esophagus, Child.
