PRODUKSI GAS HIDROGEN MELALUI METODE PEM WATER ELECTROLYSIS DENGAN DAN TANPA MPL MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS Cu2O/C DAN MEMBRAN NAFION-212
This research on the production of hydrogen gas using Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) water electrolysis method with and without Microporous Layer (MPL) utilizing Cu2O/C catalyst on both cathode and anode sides, as well as Nafion-212 membrane. The Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) consists of a Nafion membrane sandwiched between two electrodes (cathode and anode) placed in the electrolyzer stack. Two different MEAs were employed in this study: firstly, MEA with Microporous Layer (MPL), and secondly, MEA without MPL. The electrodes from each MEA were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis. The morphology of the electrodes with MPL exhibited finer pores compared to electrodes without MPL. Meanwhile, the thickness of electrodes with MPL and without MPL were measured to be 190.09 μm and 184.81 μm, respectively. The hydrogen production process was conducted in the electrolyzer stack using MEA components with a size of 49 cm2 at varying electric currents of 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; and 2.5 A. Water electrolysis using MEA with MPL yielded a hydrogen production rate of 3.04 mL/s at a current of 1.5 A, whereas MEA without MPL resulted in a hydrogen production rate of 2.77 mL/s at a current of 1.5 A
