Well logging method is conducted for coal drilling exploration activities to determine lithology and coal quality. Research has been conducted in the Keban-Ulak Lebar Village, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra to identify coal layers based on log data, analyze coal quality based on parameters such as moisture, total sulfur, calorific value, ash content, volatile matter, and fixed carbon, and determine coal types based on ASTM classification using secondary data with qualitative and quantitative approaches. Interpretation results show that coal layers in PR-32 well, seam A have a coal thickness of 11.5 m and seam B have a thickness of 17.98 m. The lithology types include sandstone, claystone, coal, and parting. Coal quality analysis based on proximate analysis in PR-32 well shows moisture content of 31.92% for seam A and 30.33% for seam B, total sulfur content of 0.18% for seam A and 0.39% for seam B, calorific value of 6758 Kcal/kg for seam A and 6621 Kcal/kg for seam B, ash content of 3.77% for seam A and 55.55% for seam B, volatile matter content of 42.20% for seam A and 41.00% for seam B, and fixed carbon content of 39.22% for seam A and 38.81% for seam B. Based on ASTM classification, the coal rank in this research area is classified as bituminous coal with a calorific value ranging from 6631 to 6784 Kcal/kg.
