SINTESIS KOMPOSIT NiFe2O4/KITOSAN-POLIVINIL ALKOHOL/SnO2 UNTUK DEGRADASI FOTOKATALITIK TETRASIKLIN
This research aims to synthesize the NiFe2O4/Chitosan-PVA/SnO2 composite as an effort to address tetracycline waste pollution in the environment. Nanomagnetic NiFe2O4 is utilized to reduce the band gap of SnO2 and also to impart magnetic properties. Chitosan-PVA is employed as a coating, while SnO2 serves as the photocatalyst. The NiFe2O4/Chitosan-PVA/SnO2 composite is synthesized using the coprecipitation method and characterized using VSM, UV-Vis DRS, XRD, and SEM-EDX. The VSM characterization results indicate a saturation magnetization (Ms) value of 45.52 emu/g. XRD characterization reveals the highest peak intensity at angles of 2θ = 26.5° and 35.65° with crystal sizes of 16.28 nm for NiFe2O4 and 36.89 nm for SnO2. UV-Vis DRS calculations yield a band gap value of 1.78 eV. SEM-EDX characterization shows surface morphology consisting of unevenly distributed granular particles and the presence of white haze (presumed to be SnO2) scattered on the surface with constituent elements C (3.305), N (6.60%), O (15.10%), Fe (47.70%), Ni (20.90%), and Sn (6.40%). The obtained pHpzc value is 6.3. The NiFe2O4/Chitosan-PVA/SnO2 composite is capable of photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline at pH 2, tetracycline concentration of 10 mg/L, and irradiation time of 90 minutes, resulting in a tetracycline concentration reduction effectiveness of 96.35%. Based on TOC analysis, the success rate of tetracycline carbon reduction using the NiFe2O4/Chitosan-PVA/SnO2 composite is 74.78%.
