PENGARUH PROSES PEMUTIHAN TERHADAP PRODUKSI BIOETANOL BERBASIS BIOMASSA TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT MENGGUNAKAN METODE HIDROLISIS DAN FERMENTASI TERPISAH
Indonesia as the world's largest palm oil producer produces large amounts of waste during the palm oil processing process, one of which is oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB). OPEFB can be utilized into biofuel, namely bioethanol. The processing of OPEFB into bioethanol is done through several stages, namely pretreatment, saccharification and fermentation; distlillation and dehydration. This study aims to produce bioethanol from OPEFB using Response Surface Method (RSM) analysis with the addition of bleaching process and Cellic® Ctec2 and Cellic® Htec2 enzymes used in the saccharification process. Bioethanol production begins with pretreatment of OPEFB using NaOH followed by bleaching. Next, enzymatic saccharification was carried out with three parameters: enzyme concentration, solid loading and temperature. Fermentation is carried out using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae to produce ethanol followed by distillation. The results showed that the use of bleaching process can increase the content of cellulose and hemicellulose in OPEFB and reduce the content of lignin. The optimum condition was achieved using RSM analysis at an enzyme concentration of 30 FPU, solid loading of 20% and a temperature of 50oC with a sugar content of 12.6% and ethanol of 2.14%. The use of bleaching process was able to increase 18% of reducing sugar yield in saccharification, but the resulting bioethanol conversion rate was much lower when compared to the use of pretreatment alone.
