Backgrounds: Glioma is a primary brain tumor that occurs in the central nervous system. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the most sensitive medical imaging procedure for diagnosing brain tumors. The objective of this research is to investigate the imaging characteristics using MRI in glioma cases at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang during the period of 2021–2023. Method: This research is an observational descriptive study. The research sample consists of medical records of glioma patients who meet the inclusion criteria and do not have exclusion criteria. Result : A total of 51 individuals (19.7%) were diagnosed with glioma, but only 34 individuals were included as samples. The majority of glioma patients were male (58.8%), with an age range of 31–40 years (31.4%). The most prevalent histopathological type of glioma was glioblastoma grade IV (22.5%). The characteristic features of glioma identified through MRI included a predominantly supratentorial intraaxial parenchymal location (88.2%), ill defined tumor margin (61.8%), hypointense signal intensity (47.1%), presence of necrotic/cystic tumor components (35.3%), and solid components (35.3%). Extensive perifocal edema was observed in 50.0% of cases, along with tumor mass effect in 88.2% of cases. No bone changes were noted in 97.1% of cases, and a heterogeneous enhancement pattern was present in 85.3% of cases. Conclusion : The characteristics of glioma patients as observed through MRI predominantly manifest in males within the age range of 31–40 years. High-grade gliomas are dominant, with the majority exhibiting glioblastoma grade IV histopathological types. These gliomas are primarily located in the supratentorial intraaxial parenchymal region, characterized by indistinct tumor borders, hypointense signal intensity, presence of necrotic/cystic and solid tumor components, extensive perifocal edema, tumor mass effect, absence of bone changes, and a heterogeneous enhancement pattern. Keywords : Glioma, MRI, Glioblastoma
